ORGANISERS of the annual Uffculme Music and Real Ale Festival have announced their line-up for this year’s event.
Headlining on the Saturday night (July 2) are Diamondogz. The ever-popular glam rockers have combed their wigs, bought new make-up, recharged their glam-batteries and are ready to rock ‘n’ roll at Magelake. They have a growing repertoire of hits from the glam rock era but a few more Bowie tracks than usual are on the cards.
Friday night’s headline act is Crow Dawn, who played at the festival two years ago and perform some of the best classic rock music ever written. Top quality music from the 60s to the present day will be on offer.
Nicole Wakeling, who opens the festival, is known for her soulful voice and down to earth performances. She constructs her own arrangements of current and classic covers using a Boss RC-50 Loopstation to create a one-woman band. She plays an array of songs that are sure to get toes tapping.
Beacon Fire are a fresh new progressive folk rock band based in Devon. They write their own music, a melodic blend of styles influenced by the likes of Elbow, Jeff Buckley, Marillion, All About Eve, Pink Floyd and Iona, among others.
Vivid Vague are a four-piece band from Ottery St Mary formed in the winter of 2014 and fronted by the vocals of Michelle Dilling. Influences include the likes of Daughter and London Grammar but some reviewers have likened their sound to Siouxsie and the Banshees.
Byzantium Lane, a duo from Devon, will be taking on old and new covers through pop, country, rock ‘n’ roll and jazz.
The Bottle Top Boogie Band are energetic exponents of skiffle – a music craze that swept England in the 1950s and inspired everyone from the Beatles, through to Van Morrison and the Rolling Stones.
Festival organisers are pleased the Culm Valley Music & Performance Club are again organising the music from 2-6.30pm on Saturday, showing the sort of quality open to all and being enjoyed by many every last Wednesday of the month at the Magelake Parish Pavilion in Uffculme. On the afternoon bill are the likes of The Rosie Eade Band and Rob Tovey.
Last year a range of lesser known ales and ciders from across Devon and the West Country were sourced. Some had quirky names such as Thirst of Many, Crispy Pig, Legbender, Skorpion Black and Old Slug Porter. This year 20 ales and ten ciders are on offer, although these are still being researched.
Food, tea and coffee will also be available on site on Friday and Saturday from Marc ’n’ Rosie of Go Local. Two other local vendors are also at the event selling food.
Admission to the festival, which runs from July 1-3 and is held at Magelake in the village, is £5 or £8 for the weekend.
