YOUNG Wellington musician Tom Westlake has been earning plaudits from some of the biggest names in the industry.
He came in the top ten in this year’s Song Academy Young Songwriter competition and with his band Last One Home has just performed his track ‘Something to Hope For’ at the Song Academy live event at Westfield in London.
They were the penultimate band on the outdoor stage in front of a large audience and delivered the song in their usual dynamic rock style.
Rowena Atkins, founder of Song Academy, said: “Tom and his band Last One Home gave an impressive performance at our Young Songwriter 2017 live showcase.

Brit nominee and MOJO winner Rumer, one of the competition judges, had previously commented: “Good stadium rock song, good melody and strong lyric.”
And Grammy Award winner and fellow judge Imogen Heap said Tom had done a great job recording the track by himself.
Tom said: “Fresh from a gig in Bristol a couple of days earlier it was great to play in London. Although it was strange to play just one of my songs, the audience gave
us an amazing reception and I’d love to play a full set with my band Last One Home in London in the future.”
The band can be seen at The Winchester Arms, Taunton, on Friday, June 30, at Taunton Live @ Castle Green, and Fake Festival, both in Taunton, on Saturday, July 29.
