The Rugby Club in Wellington is the venue for a new fitness class for the over-60s starting tomorrow (Friday, September 18), run by Anne Panesar.

Her FABS programme – Flexibility, Aerobics, Balance and Strength – begins at a gentle pace to slowly build up muscle and bone strength.

Anne launched an exercise class for the over-60s at Bradford-on-Tone village hall earlier this year but it had to stop because of Covid-19 restrictions.

She said the pandemic had led to many people staying at home and becoming inactive and isolated, and her exercise class would help counter that.

Anne added: “The exercises we do in the classes are easy to follow and fun. This isn’t about people dressing in Lycra ready to hit the gym or do a high intensity session – FABS is for people who want to live longer, happier, healthier lives. We ensure there’s a warm welcome for everyone who attends.”

The first Move It or Lose It class at the Rugby Club in Corams Lane is a free taster session from 1.30-2.30pm.

Locally, Anne also has a class at Milverton Victoria Rooms which resumes on Monday (September 14) from 10-11am with the class at Bradford-on-Tone village hall returning on Friday, September 25, from 10-11am.

Two free taster sessions are in the pipeline at Nynehead memorial hall and Langford Budville village hall.

The classes follow Government, venue and fitness industry guidance to keep participants safe, and include social distancing, hand hygiene and additional cleaning in the venue. Booking in is essential for NHS test and trace purposes.
