ONE year ago the WWN reported that the then 73-year old Chris Marrow had been part of an eight-man No Surrender team that had set a world indoor record for a small team of over-70s rowing 100km in relay.
Now Chris, who lives in Courtland Road, has done it again. A team of the best over-70 rowers from all over Britain got together in Newquay and set off after the large team 100km record.
Each rower did 20 flat out strokes before passing on to the next team member and after five hours 45 minutes and 8.1 seconds they reached their target, setting a world mark validated by Concept 2, the indoor rowing experts.
Chris trains at the Princess Royal Sports Centre in Wellington where Tumie Ngakane puts him through his paces. He loves the friendly staff and flexible arrangements, and is now analysing video of the event with them to see where he can still improve, just in case anyone calls on him to go for any other records.
