AT the moment Wellington Town Council cannot fly flags to mark public events outside its offices in Fore Street.

This is because there is no longer a flag pole bracket there. There used to be three but these were removed when Taunton Deane Borough Council redecorated the building six months ago.

Now the Deane’s planners say permission is needed to replace the brackets as the former Squirrel Hotel building, which houses the town council, the museum and the Citizens Advice Bureau, is listed.
