A former organist who denied a decade-long series of rape and other sex offences against two young girls has been found not guilty on the most serious charges.

But Nigel Parkin, 56, of North Street, Wiveliscombe, who played the organ at St Andrew's Church, Wiveliscombe, has been told he will have to wait a week to find out if he has to face a retrial on three charges of indecent assault and four of sexual assault.

He was cleared of all eight charges of rape and two of indecent assault at the end of a week-long trial yesterday.

But the jury at Taunton Crown Court failed to reach verdicts on three alleged indecent assaults and four of sexual assault.
