A PENSIONER in her 80s feels ‘upset’ and ‘exhausted’ following near-monthly power cuts in Rockwell Green.

The woman, who asked to remain anonymous, cares for her husband at their home while he receives support from the hospice.

However, she said repeated outages have made the task of caring for him even more difficult.

The latest power cut on Monday (February 16) left 362 properties without power for several hours.

This was the ninth power cut the area has seen in the past eight months.

The woman said: “I feel exhausted. When you are looking after a sick person in the house and then experience a power cut, it makes every task more difficult.

“I thought ‘here is another problem I have to solve’ and I just felt defeated to be honest.”

Her property was out of power for six hours, which caused her boiler to trip.

It was only at 5 pm the following day that her boiler was fixed and heating resumed.

The lack of hot water also meant that her husband was unable to be washed, so the woman had to cancel a visit from the carer which she still had to pay for.

The woman and her husband are on the emergency register for priority service due to medical equipment in the house but have been left concerned over the resilience of the local network, especially since proposals of new houses are underway.

The woman continued: “It is surprising her quickly the cold bites. The knock on effect of me worrying, worries my husband.”

The woman got in touch with Andy Denison, a local man from Rockwell Green who recently questioned National Grid chief executive Zoë Yujnovich on the resilience of the local network.

A spokesperson for Ms Yujnovich said her ‘local team’ would investigate and ‘provide an update on the network performance and availability’.
