PENSIONER Dennis Ventham is warning people in the Wellington area about ‘misleading’ PPI letters his wife has received.
Mr Ventham, 71, said the letters sent to his wife Elizabeth suggested she had already contacted the firm to act on her behalf when she had not done so.
The letter, from Uclaim4me, based in Wolverhampton, is headed ‘Great News! your PPI forms have been received’.
It goes on to say: “We are currently preparing your claims to submit to your lenders...We have enclosed the letters of authority for each lender you have told us about.
“Please can you sign the forms enclosed and return them to us in the pre-paid envelope provided.”
The company’s terms of engagement say it charges a 20 per cent fee plus VAT for any successful compensation claim.
Mr Ventham said Elizabeth, 59, had received four undated letters in a month from Uclaim4me.
He said: “We had never heard of the company and the letter is vague and misleading.
“It is trying to indicate that my wife has appointed them to do something, or contacted them, which she has never done.”
UClaim4me’s website says it has extensive experience of claiming back mis-sold Payment Protection Insurance and credit card charges, and has reclaimed £127 million for its clients.
The Financial Conduct Authority says £34.4bn has been paid out to customers who complained about the way they were sold PPI since January 2011. The claims deadline is August 29 this year.
UClaim4me was asked for a comment but had not responded by the time of going to press.
