PILOT Jim Greenshields, from Dunkeswell, is next month hoping to achieve his third world record and raise money for a charity that helps sick children’s wishes come true.

He is hoping to break the Guinness World Record for most take-offs and landings by one plane in one hour – the record stands at 36.

He will raise funds for Make-A-Wish UK, a charity that grants magical wishes to children and young people fighting life-threatening conditions.

The record attempt is on Saturday, September 10, at 5pm, with the next day as a reserve day if the weather is bad.

Jim, 58, said: “I hope to make 40 take-offs and landings. Each time the plane must climb to 1,000ft and the landing must be in a 20-metre box, so each ascent and descent must be perfect and accurate – any mistakes means wasted time, every second counts.”

He holds the record for the most aircraft flown in one day – 43 – and organised the record for the most aircraft to take off in one hour.

His plane must be fitted with onboard cameras, filmed from the ground and timed by a qualified timekeeper. The evidence will be submitted to Guinness World Records for verification.

Jim added: “I have an amazing ground support team helping on the day, including my nine-year-old son William, who will be helping with the fundraising and collecting.

“Please help me raise funds for Make-A-Wish UK – it does a fantastic job granting wishes to very deserving children.

“Some of the wishes are so simple but have a huge impact by taking them away from their troubles for a short while. Please dig deep to support this fantastic cause.”
