TWENTY enthusiastic volunteers from Transition Town Wellington (TTW) and Life Central Church joined together to highlight the issues surrounding single use plastics and the environment.
The team took a bag each supplied by Taunton Deane Borough Council and went to the public spaces and roadsides around Wellington.
Steve Jenkins, pastor at Life Central, said: “Most of us expected to find discarded drinks bottles and crisp packets but the reality was this and a whole lot more.
“We found such diverse items as a plastic bin full of nappies, a television, fire extinguishers and lots of other plastic refuse.
“It was horrific – especially since many of us have become more aware of the damage plastics are doing to our environment since seeing David Attenborough’s Blue Planet II last year.”
TTW and Life Central are showing A Plastic Ocean at St John’s Primary School on Saturday, April 21. The film starts at 7pm with refreshments and information stalls available from 5.30pm. Entry to this informative documentary film is free and open to everyone.
