WELLINGTON Monument and District Ploughing Society once again beat the wet weather and held its annual match with the sun out while heavy showers ran along the Blackdown Hills.

The judges praised the high quality of the ploughing due to the wonderful soil conditions at Longforth Farm – the society is very grateful to Richard and Carol Smith for allowing the use of the field.

Sixty ploughmen competed on the day, travelling from all parts of the South-West of England.

David Jones from Cornwall was being filmed by a television crew as he competed in the Horse Ploughing and with Michael Yorke and John Mattingly gave a wonderful display of the skill involved.
