Wellington Town Council is excited to have launched a new gov.uk website.

A work in progress for quite some time, the new website brings the town council bang up to date with new digital compliance and accessibility standards.

The new site was built by Aubergine 262 who have extensive experience in creating websites for town and parish councils.

The content on the new site is almost identical to that on the old one with some minor updates, rewording, and redesigns on some pages to ensure they are engaging for readers and accessible for all.

The website includes core information on council meetings, finances, and services, but also devotes pages to information on the local area, climate action, awards and achievements, a community notice board and comprehensive calendar of community events.

A list of links to Somerset Council services can also be accessed via the new website, showing a clear separation of services both the local authority and the town council.

Wellington Town Council communications officer, Rebecca Hunt said, "We are all really pleased with the new site and hope that people find it informative and easy-to-use.

“It was quite a task transferring all of our information from one site to the other, but it gave us an opportunity to make our new pages look and work even better.

“This new site is designed to be accessible for everyone in the community, ensuring that people with disabilities who may be using assistive technology can still access the information we provide clearly and reliably.”

The Council is retaining .co.uk email addresses for the time, with the change to gov.uk to happen at a later date. Work in ongoing to redirect traffic from the old site to the new and due to be completed in the coming days.
