NINE candidates are looking to be co-opted onto Wellington Town Council as councillors.
Twelve councillors were elected onto the council in the May 2 local elections but that left three vacancies.
Less than three weeks later and a special meeting of the town council will be held at which members will co-opt one new councillor for the Wellington East ward and two for Wellington South.
Although there were not enough candidates to fill the seats at the May 2 election, nine people have now put themselves forward for co-option.
The meeting is at 6pm on Monday, May 20, at the United Reformed Church in Fore Street, Wellington.
Newly-elected members – Labour’s Cllr Michael McGuffie, independent Cllr Nicholas Smith and LibDem candidate Cllr Chris Booth – were welcomed to the council when it met for the first time following the election on Monday (May 13) evening.
