THERE was some ‘councillor love’ on Wellington Town Council when Cllr Andrew Govier stepped down from a working group to allow a colleague to step forward and take his place.
Cllr Marcus Barr has for some time wanted to be a member of the council’s town centre working group which is looking at ways of improving its viability and appearance.
But the group is made up local business people and interested parties along with a number of town councillors – including Cllr Govier.
Cllr Barr again asked at the council’s annual meeting on May 8 if he could become a member of the working group.
And that’s when Cllr Govier made his decision to stand aside.
“I don’t think there should be too many councillors on the working group so I am more than happy to drop off to allow Cllr Barr to sit on the group,” said Cllr Govier.
Cllr Barr thanked his council colleague and said he ‘very much appreciated’ the gesture.
