THE Royal British Legion Wellington branch held another successful Gala Poppy Concert Evening last Friday in the Great Hall at Wellington School sponsored by H Tredwin & Sons.

A new programme was arranged for this year which included entertainment by the Somerset Hill Chorus, Wellington Silver Band and talented Wellington School sixth-form student from Esta Felix.

The RBL Wellington branch was pleased to receive the support of several VIP’s who included Wellington Mayor Cllr Gary James, his consort Bee James, RBL county chairman Robert McDonald and his wife Jean, and RBL county Women’s section chairman Tina Yaw and her husband.

Following the interval a brief Act of Remembrance was held led by John Elder, who was accompanied by Wellington Prep School head boy Tom Hopkins and head girl Georgia Stevens, who both laid posies of poppies onto Wellington’s Books of Remembrance.

A raffle was drawn with numerous prizes and a significant sum of money was raised on the night towards the annual Poppy Appeal.

Our thanks to Somerset Hill Chorus, Wellington Silver Band and, most importantly, Chris Palucis from Wellington Silver Band for playing the Last Post and Reveille during the Act of Remembrance.

We also thank the talented Esta Felix, the RBL standard bearers for their smartness and precision, the RBL?Wellington Women’s Section for organising the raffle and Angie Filler for organising the concert.
