COMMUNITY radio station 10Radio, based in Wiveliscombe, has been mentioned in the House of Commons in the second reading of the Broadcasting (Radio Multiplex Services) Bill.

The bill is set to create legislation which will enable smaller community radio stations to offer programmes on the Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) platform.

Taunton Deane MP Rebecca Pow praised everyone involved with running 10Radio and congratulated it for providing local news and gossip, and for engaging with so many aspects of the local community.

She mentioned wheelchair user Josef Tucker, who speaks through a computer-controlled gadget controlled by his head movements to make and present a bi-weekly programme about musical theatre.

Ms Pow visited 10Radio before Christmas to talk to listeners about her first 18 months as MP for Taunton Deane. She spoke on a wide range of subjects including Brexit, transport and the local NHS services.

10Radio director and presenter Barry Allaway, who conducted the interview, said: “We are fortunate in Taunton Deane that the current MP, Rebecca Pow, and her predecessor Jeremy Browne have both shown a keen interest in community radio in the area, for which we are extremely grateful.”

The interview has been broadcast on 10Radio’s ‘Community Show’ on 105.3FM and online, and is now available to ‘listen again’ from the Home Page at www.10radio.org
