Court Fields Community Pre-School in Wellington has been given the thumbs-up by local councillors for grant support in its bid to expand.
The pre-school has been encouraged by Somerset County Council to increase its capacity in order to meet local demand and is looking to relocate to the youth centre.
Alterations to the building would be required and this would cost in the region of £32,000. The pre-school had thought Somerset County Council would help with some of the funding but due to the ongoing cash crisis at County Hall this is no longer the case.
The pre-school had not given any specific contribution of grant wanted but said anything would be greatly appreciated.
Cllr John Thorne, speaking at last week’s town council meeting, said: “Somerset County Council has left the pre-school high and dry but it still needs to move into the youth centre. We should support the pre-school to help it make the youth centre more viable.”
Councillors have agreed to award the pre-school a £1,000 grant.
