LOST cat Princess has been reunited with her owner – with a little help from the WWN.

The friendly and fluffy young puss had been a regular visitor to a garden in the Wellesley Park area of Wellington since the start of April and now, following an appeal in last week’s WWN, she is back with her owner.

David Manners, joint branch co-ordinator of the Taunton & Wellington branch of Cats Protection, said: “As a charity that reunites 3,000 cats across the UK every year, we were thrilled that we were able to help reunite Princess with her owner.”

Princess turned up in the garden of the property in Wellesley Park nearly a month ago and the home owner called Cats Protection.

Princess was scanned for a microchip with no success, so details were posted on the branch’s website and Facebook pages in an effort to find her owner.

It was initially thought the owner may have been on holiday as cats sometimes wander if they are not happy with the change to their routine if neighbours or relatives are feeding them.

Paper collars were also used, bearing a message to call Cats Protection, in the hope that if Princess lived locally and returned home, her owner would be alerted to her visiting other houses. That had no success but an appeal in the WWN, with a photo of Princess, found the owner within hours of being published last Wednesday.

Mr Manners added: “It is so important that if a cat is found, that action to try and trace an owner is made straight away.

“Do not simply start to feed the cat, as it will not want to return home if it lives locally.

“Ask neighbours if they recognise the visitor and seek help by calling Cats Protection or local vet practices.

“The owner will be worried that their cat is missing, so making every effort to reunite them is vital.”
