New figures from the Land Registry have shown that house prices in Somerset West and Taunton rose by an average of £5,000 in August.
The data revealed that average house prices in the area reached £306,239 in August 2022, up from £301,009.
This equates to a 1.7 per cent increase of £5,230 over the month, while there was a 16.9 percent increase over the past year.
The type of housing that saw the biggest price increase over the month was detached houses, which rose from £473,883 to £482,477, while semi-detached house prices increased from £308,085 to £313,222.
Terraced houses also saw prices increase, rising from £243,493 to £247,890, and prices for flats rose from £155,035 to £157,322.
The area’s housing prices were above the national average in the period, being more than £10,000 higher than the UK’s figure of £295,903.
This meant that across the UK, the average house price increase was 13.6 per cent over the past year, and 0.9 percent across August 2022.
