WELLINGTON Hospital League of Friends have been delighted to return to fund-raising with a week-long sale in the Pop Up Shop.

It is estimated the event will have brought in just more than £2,000 for funds - a welcome addition after two years without fund-raising.

The shop was packed full of a tempting array of items - from hand made pottery to soft toys, jewellery, books and there was also an opportunity to buy a ticket for the grand draw, which took place last Saturday afternoon. The winner of the first prize of £200 cash provided by the League of Friends was Sally Smith. The second prize of £100 in meat vouchers (donated by Quantock Funeral Services) was won by Dave Adams. There were 41 prizes (all donated by local businesses and league trustees).

Footfall through the shop was fairly steady throughout the week, despite heavy downpours on most days and the sudden rise in Covid cases in the area.

League Chair Martine Thurtle said: “This was a lovely opportunity, after two years of not being able to raise funds openly. We were greeted very warmly by all who came in and bought the many things for sale. It was very clear from the many comments, how much people value our hospital and local health support services.

“We are very grateful for the amazing support we received from local businesses who donated so many wonderful prizes for the raffle, despite themselves having had a tough time during the past two years. We are also very grateful to Wellington Inner Wheel who kindly donated £100, to the many individuals who donated items for sale, those who bought items and had a go on the raffle, and of course Wellington Town Council for the use of the Pop Up Shop.

“Last, but not least, I’d like to thank my fellow trustees who have worked hard over the past months to bring this about.”

The League is planning to hold a Christmas Coffee Morning on Saturday, November 19, 10am - noon in Wellington Baptist Church Hall in South Street.
