PUPILS at Beech Grove Primary School in Wellington held their Children in Need events a week early to support BBC Radio Somerset presenter Claire Carter’s Great Wellington Walk.

Year 6 children put on a ‘Pay to Play’ event at lunchtime for the school with pupils designing stalls around a Pudsey theme to create a ‘spotacular’ event. ‘Pay to Play’, plus a ‘spotty’ non-uniform day, raised £525 for the charity.

Claire was walking 75 miles in five days between towns and villages around Somerset in wellington boots. She called into Beech Grove with Pudsey and giant wellies to collect the school’s fundraising, and the school featured on the BBC Points West television programme.

Mayor of Wellington Gary James and his wife Birgit went along to Beech Grove to support the ‘Pay to Play’ event. Children paid 20p a ticket – maximum £1 – at a stall in return for a turn at an activity.
