STUDENTS, teachers and staff across Wellington celebrated World Book Day in style, dressing up as their favourite characters and taking part in a range of reading activities.
Staff were amazed by the incredible array of characters that filled the corridors and classrooms, with awesome costumes and wonderfully creative outfits on display throughout World Book Day on Thursday (March 5).

Pupils at Court Fields School took part in a range of book-themed activities during their lunchtime.
A spokesperson from the school, said: “It was fantastic to see so many young readers engaging, having fun, and celebrating the joy of books together.”
At St John’s Primary School, the celebrations began with a special whole-school assembly.

Mr Priestley shared one of his favourite picture books, ‘Press Here’, which quickly captured everyone’s attention.
There was then an exciting surprise for everyone. Each class received a special delivery — a brand new picture book.
With great excitement, a class representative opened the book and shared it with the rest of the school during the assembly.

The rest of the morning was filled with an action-packed schedule of activities inspired by each class’s new book.
Across the school there was also plenty of artistic activity, with pupils creating colourful artwork linked to their stories.

Miss Brown, English lead at St John’s CofE Primary School, said: “Well done to all the children who took part and shared their fantastic book knowledge. It was a wonderful day celebrating stories, imagination and the joy of reading. To round off a busy day, we had our book sale in the hall. Many thanks to the families who supported this and we hope the children enjoy their new reads.”

At Beech Grove Primary School, pupils dressed up as their favourite characters, designed their own book covers and made individual bookmarks.
