PUPILS and staff at Wellesley Park Primary School in Wellington love reading and it is at the heart of the curriculum.
Every year, World Book Day is the perfect opportunity to celebrate reading, authors and illustrators but this year World Book Day was a little bit different.
In order to allow all of the children to join in with the fun, Wellesley Park moved its celebrations back a week.
Pupils and teachers still enjoyed dressing up as their favourite book characters.

Good tidings for local firms as they are shortlisted in Somerset Business Awards 2026And some of the children also chose to create a ‘Book in a Box’ to represent one of their favourite stories. The school had fun guessing the books which different children were representing, sharing some of their favourite titles and sharing the new books their World Book Day token had purchased.
A spokesperson for the school said: “As a school, we are passionate about the importance of developing a love of books and reading.
“Our children consistently excel in this area with 83 per cent exceeding the national standard compared with 73 per cent nationally.
“A huge thank you to all of the parents for helping Wellesley Park to show their love of reading.”
