PUPILS in Key Stage 2 at Churchstanton Primary School have found out what it was like to be an evacuee during the Second World War.

They were joined by visitors from Upottery Airfield Heritage Centre, who took along interesting artefacts for the children to see and shared lots of stories.

Parents and local volunteers – also in costume – joined the pupils in the afternoon, to take part in drama role plays.

The day supported the children’s topic this term, ‘No Place Like Home’, largely focused on children in the Second World War.

It also commemorated the 80th anniversary last month of the arrival of a large group of evacuees at Churchstanton School from West Ham, London.
