PYJAMAS and onesies were the order of the day when Wellington Library held two ‘Pyjamarama’ parties this week.

Staff and members of the public dressed for bed for a host of themed songs and stories at the events run by Tilly Perry.

Arts Council England, Bloomsbury and the Book Trust promoted the parties, with a free book and activity pack give away.

The normal ‘Toddler Time’ and ‘Baby Boogie’ will resume as normal – without pyjamas – on Wednesdays and Fridays throughout term time. The groups are free and run from 11-11.30am.

They are filled with songs, nursery rhymes and stories, all in the comfort of the children’s section in the library.

New town councillor for Wellington South Sean Pringle Kosikowsky said: “I cannot recommend these groups enough – they are welcoming, super friendly for Mums and Dads, promote learning and development with the children through nursery rhymes, all the while supporting our wonderful resource of a town library.

“I have been attending for many years with several of my children and have loved every minute.

“It has also been a great way to meet other parents with young children, a real help when parenting.

“In Wellington we recently almost lost our library, one of the last few staples of society that is considered – or at least used to be considered – compulsory in a town.

“Wellington is so fortunate to have kept this wonderful community resource for the time being and we should try and support it in whatever ways we can.

“Partake in all the special programmes for young children, the summer reading challenge for older children, go in for community information, read a newspaper, use the internet, borrow a book or even rent a DVD.

“By using our local services shows that we don’t want to again stand on the precipice of losing it forever.”
