THE life of Queen Victoria’s sixth child, Louise Caroline Alberta – known by her family as ‘Loosy’ – is the subject of a talk by Mike Crew at Wellington Prep School next week.

‘Loosy’ was probably one of the most influential women of the late Victorian and Edwardian period in the field of women’s education and rights.

She is little known these days but was elected the first president of the National Union for the Higher Education of Women.

Mike has been researching the life and times of ‘Loosy’ for several years. He has letters, photographs and other memorabilia from her long and varied life – she died aged 91 in 1939 – which he will show at his illustrated talk on Thursday, May 25, at 7.30pm.

The talk is organised by and in aid of Wellington Local History & Museum Society. Entry is £3 or £2 for society members.
