Behind the Quaker Meeting House in Wellington High Street lies the old burial ground, converted in the 1950s into a restful Peace Garden, with access from the main road.
Alongside the garden are two huts, one housing Wellington Toy Library, the other a hut for children who attend Quaker Meetings with their parents. Both are kept locked.
In the past fortnight youths have climbed over the garden back wall and, on the first occasion, were seen drinking in the children’s hut. When cleared out, their rubbish was chocolate wrappers, beer cans and an empty gin bottle with plastic cups.
So the window they had used for entry was wired shut.

A contractor entering the garden on Monday found every window open, the lights on, the items from the children’s cupboard scattered all over the floor and all windows, window sills and the table and much of the floor covered with the paper glue from the cupboard.
It is sad that a public facility should be abused in this way.
