RENOWNED Somerset author and patron of reading Joffre White has officially opened Langford Budville Primary School’s new library.

He visited Key Stage 2 and shared his love of books, reading and writing – and inspired many pupils to start writing their own stories.

One pupil said: “I didn’t know that all you needed was a pen, some paper and your imagination!”

Children had spent time designing their ideal reading space and teachers used part of the Easter holiday bringing their ideas to life.

Some £300 of new books was provided by Friends of Langford Budville School and each child chose a title to top up the shelves.

The library was re-decorated by one of the parents, who gave his time free of charge.

The new librarians are now being trained and are looking forward to promoting reading across the school.

Extra reading sessions with Damson the reading dog can now take place in a comfortable, relaxed and purposefully designed space.
