THE closure of the road on the Wellington side of the roundabout at Chelston brought confusion and chaos to the centre of the town on Saturday – and again the following day.
Traffic coming off the A38 at Chelston had to take the Relief Road before causing a jam as it entered the town in South Street.
At times traffic from South Street, whose lights were sometimes letting only two vehicles through, was unable to go into the High Street because vehicles were blocking the road.
Road closure signs on the entrance to Priory in Wellington meant some motorists turned back when the road to Nynehead and the Mount Vets was still open.
One motorist told the WWN: “Not only were the signs wrong but there was no public notice in the Wellington paper which there should have been.”
The road will again be closed this weekend.
