COUNTY highways chiefs have postponed a road improvement scheme in Rockwell Green after a furore over the way it was suddenly unveiled – nine years after public consultation on the plans.
The work at Westford Bridge to create a footpath, a priority traffic flow and a safer crossing point for pedestrians, was required as part of planning permission for the Westford Grange housing estate.
Contractors were set to have started the scheme on Monday of last week, which would have seen Payton Road completely closed for 20 days.
