CHILDREN from Rockwell Green Primary School continue to remember the 28 people laid to rest in war graves at Wellington Cemetery.
Once a month, with great care and dignity, the children in pairs lay a posy of flowers on each war grave, after removing the remnants of those laid the previous month.
In November, as the nation and the people of Wellington take time to remember, the children from Rockwell Green not only lay a posy of flowers but a wooden cross of remembrance. This year the children in Woodpecker Class, along with their teacher Lauren Adams, laid the flowers and the Crosses of Remembrance.
They were headed on their walk from school to the cemetery by the Royal British Legion Wellington branch standard carried by branch standard bearer Bob Trickey and were led by Deputy Town Mayor Cllr Janet Lloyd, deputy town clerk Debbie Bere and Wellington branch chairman Ray Filler.
At Wellington Cemetery they were met by Wellington Mayor Cllr Gary James, Cllr Bob Bowrah and branch members and officers from the RBL Wellington branch, who were pleased to meet and welcome Jim Booth, who served in the Royal Navy in the Second World War.
Having visited each war grave everyone paused for a few moments in a brief Act of Remembrance followed by a short prayer given by Bob House from Rockwell Green Christian Centre and friend to Rockwell Green Primary School.
All members of the RBL Wellington branch would like to thank Rockwell Green head teacher Morwenna Dunstan, the children from Woodpecker Class and teacher Lauren Adams, their classroom assistants, Wellington Town Council for its financial support in buying flowers throughout the year and Judith Goss Florist for providing flowers every month.
The children are a credit to their families, school and wider community.
