LESSONS at Oake and Bradford Community Primary School were getting back to normal today (Wednesday) after pupils got a surprise day off yesterday when fire broke out in an office.

The incident took place as pupils were arriving for the day's lessons.

Speaking from the school yesterday, Tuesday, head teacher Angela Bridgeland said: "The school was was evacuated safely, and nobody was hurt.

"We took the decision to close the school for a day, but lessons will be back to normal tomorrow.

Two fire engines from Wellington attended.

A spokesman from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "The Fire Service was called after reports of an electrical heater on fire in an office at the school.

"On arrival crews got to work using a CO2 extinguisher along with two sets of breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire.

"When the fire had been successfully extinguished they ventilated the property before returning to station.

"There was substantial damage caused by fire to the heater and minimal smoke damage to the rest of the room."
