SAFETY is the watchword for Wellington School as it plans to open to more students amid the coronavirus crisis.

The school has already welcomed back children in the Prep School in Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 with a 95 per cent take up from families.

Year 10 and Year 12 students have had the opportunity since Monday to take part in some face-to-face learning and activities on site.

Now the school is adopting the Boarding Schools Association’s Covid-Safe Charter as a way of ensuring that boarding houses and the wider school site are safe for students to return to school.

The school hosted a live information forum last week, providing an opportunity to learn more about the arrangements it is putting in place to ensure a safe return to school for all its students.

The charter covers pre-arrival protocols for boarding students, transport arrangements, deep cleaning regimes, social distancing and testing policies, among other measures.

Headmaster Eugene du Toit said: “We are delighted to see children back in school, having fun and learning together. We have taken all necessary steps and precautions to provide the safest possible school environment for our pupils, and we look forward to welcoming more children back to school in September.”
