GUNpowder, rockets and jet engines meant Beech Grove Primary School’s STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) week went off with a bang.
It was clear from the buzz and excitement in school that the children enjoyed themselves, while learning a great deal about the importance of these subjects in their everyday lives.
It was lovely to hear the children talking about the STEM jobs they would like to do when they are older.
One child said: “Two men called Steve and Furgus did a show including the bed of nails, teddy explosion, Rice Krispies explosion, balloon bang, shampoo-hair fire and a jet engine! The show included lots of bangs, as you can imagine. Steve was an amazing scientist and planned a great show that we all really enjoyed.”
Parents were also impressed, one saying: “I just wanted to say how brilliant the first day of the STEM seems to have been. India has talked non-stop about all the exciting experiments that took place today. She especially loved telling me about the gunpowder, liquid nitrogen and nails! I’m very grateful to you all for putting these events on as they certainly bring the subjects to life.”
The launching of rockets and racing of battery/fan-powered cars in the workshops run by the Wonder Struck Science Company were educational and fun, which led to an exciting week with a lasting impact on learning.
