SHIRE horses were on show at Sheppy’s Cider near Bradford-on-Tone, on Saturday in an event to promote the breed.
Valerie Giles, area co-ordinator of the Shire Horse Society, who organised the awareness day, said there are fewer than 2,500 horses in this country. “No-one wants to see the demise of the horse,” said Valerie, of Ford Street, Wellington.
The event included plaiting demonstrations – and the chance to have a go – a talk on ring craft and showing skills – including ring etiquette – working and harnessing, and a gypsy caravan.
