NYNEHEAD’s annual flower show, run by Nynehead Garden Club, was a great success despite an atrocious weather forecast for the day of the event.

The number of entries was up in a lot of classes and some new entrants were successful with their entries.

Teas were served in the hall because of the inclement weather and Keith Haslam and Mervyn Hooper presented the cup winners with their trophies.

Cup winners were: Vegetables – Prior Shield, Keith Haslam; fruit – Hargreaves Shield, Rosemary Inder; flowers – Best Flower in Show, Shepherd Cup, David Smith; best rose – the Rose Cup, Christine Coombs; handicrafts – most points in handicrafts, Sandra Stacey; Nynehead Court Cup – most points in show, Keith Haslam; shield for most points in young people’s section – equal points – shared by Phoebe Billings and Olivia Coombes; heaviest potato in bucket – Mrs Chris Coombs, weight of 5lbs 2oz; cookery – the Bruford Cup, Vicky Lovell.
