NEARLY £500 has been raised at a coffee and craft morning in aid of baby charity Tommy’s.

Sisters Ali Beaver and Ruth Slade hosted the event at Wellington Baptist Church Hall to raise money in memory of their niece Emma.

The morning was a great success. Children enjoyed the craft activities and the soft play area provided by Rebecca at Toddler Sense was popular. Everyone appreciated the home-baked cakes given by family, friends and neighbours.

“Events like this make me realise what a great community we have in Wellington,” said Ali.

“I advertised the event around town and on social media. Four people who I’d never met baked cakes for us and several families from the Longworth Farm estate attended.

“Friends from Wellington and beyond worked hard to run the activities and serve refreshments on the day. I am very grateful to all the volunteers who gave up their time.”

The total raised was £496.60 with another £150 donated in online sponsorship.

Ali and Ruth are continuing to fundraise alongside training for a half-marathon in March 2019.
