More than 80 local, national and international charities are looking for fundraisers to break the Guinness World Record for the most tandem skydives in 24 hours.

The record attempt will take place at Skydive Buzz, Dunkeswell Airfield, on Monday, June 20.

Some 404 people will be needed to jump out of a plane, within 24 hours, to beat the current world record. Spaces are still available and more participants are required.

Tandem instructors and camera flyers will come to Dunkeswell from all over the country, three of the world’s fastest skydiving planes will be used and jumping will take place from sunrise until sunset.

The same skydiving school recently made UK history by taking Verdun Hayes on a jump for his 100th birthday.

“As long as people are reasonably fit and healthy, they can do a skydive,” said Jason Farrant, owner and the most experienced tandem instructor at Skydive Buzz with more than 10 000 jumps.

Skydive Buzz, previously Skydive UK, achieved the Guinness World Record, completing 281 tandem jumps in 24 hours in June 2014. Since then the record has been beaten, so it is looking to win it back.

The attempt will be a challenge as the ultimate height, 15,000ft, is being offered. The current record was set from 10 000ft, giving people half of the freefall time.

If budget is tight, it is possible to do a skydive using Jump For Free scheme when raising money for charity.
