COMMUNITY Speedwatch volunteers have begun monitoring drivers’ speeds in Holywell Lake and Ford Street.

Residents are concerned about the high speeds and careless attitude of some drivers, and at the rise in accidents and consequent casualties.

Ford Street has become an accident blackspot with about 50 casualties in the last ten years, some life-changing, with many other incidents involving only vehicle damage.

Both areas will be monitored by Speedwatch volunteers, supported by the police and safety adviser, at different times of day. Police speed check vehicles will also be a presence.
