KINGSMEAD School in Wiveliscombe held a number of events to support Sports Relief 2016.

Students and teachers played volleyball and benchball games, cheered on by a crowd of spectators – the fancy dress wigs and headgear sported by some teachers did not seem to affect their game too much.

Students also made and sold cakes and home-made crafts during the week, as well as selling Sports Relief wristbands.

The week ended with the Sports Relief Mile Challenge. Students and staff were sponsored by friends and family to complete one mile/three laps of the school field – some choose to run while others walked a three-legged and even 11-legged race.

Fancy dress and face paint were in evidence and even the Parrett House Parrot – and Pirate – made an appearance.

Students completed the challenge in their house teams and house points were awarded to competitors. Tom Heal from Year 7 was first home for Barle House; Paul Bowler (Year 11) was first home for Parrett House; and Natasha Edmondston-Low (Year 9) was first home for Otter House.

Tom Ulrico and Tom Holland from Year 8 tried to complete the event ‘Commando Style’ – crawling on their elbows through mud. They did not give up and were only beaten by the bell for afternoon registration.

Fundraising continued with a non-school uniform day on the last day of term. Money raised is still being collected and a final total will be known after the Easter holidays.
