THE play area at Dobree Park, Rockwell Green, was in ‘a totally disgusting state and was a shambles,’ said Cllr Marcus Barr at the June meeting of Wellington Town

Council.

The play equipment had been out of order for a very long time because there was no election for three years, he said. “It has been put on the back burner, If there was an election this year it would be done.”

Cllr Janet Reed, who is also a Deane councillor, said a lot of play areas in Taunton were worse than Dobree Park. It was going to cost a lot of money to repair them. The equipment at Dobree was on the list to be repaired.

Cllr Peter Critchard said the Deane had received money from housing developers to manage play areas and on his suggestion it was agreed to press the Deane to ensure that all the equipment was repaired before the start of the school summer holidays.

Cllr Bill Sparrow said it was because of Central Government cutbacks that the council could not afford to repair equipment.
