THE Emporium Somerset in Wellington is asking other shopkeepers in the area to get behind a campaign to boost small, independently-run firms and encourage people to shop with them.

It hopes the town’s retailers will display a ‘shop local’ style poster in their windows in a bid to support each other and let shoppers know that when they buy from them their money will be staying in the area and not going to national firms elsewhere.

Cato Cooper, co-owner of The Emporium Somerset, which includes more than 50 shops across three floors, said: “We recently encouraged shoppers to think more about buying locally, but we also want to get other businesses in the area on board too, so we have created some posters that other shops are welcome to display in their windows as part of the ‘buy local’ campaign.

“The posters will let shoppers out on the street know which shops are independently owned and need their support.
