STREET lights across around Wellington and the surrounding area could grow dim after county council officials decided to switch some off.

Lighting will be reduced from midnight until 5:30am in selected locations when there is less traffic on the roads to reduce Somerset's carbon footprint and save costs.

But officials at Somerset County will not identify the exact locations where the lamps will be switched off or dimmed.

They say revealing the locations would jeopardise the results of the scheme, and go against requests by participating parishes.
