THE 10 Parishes Street Market and Carnival at Wiveliscombe attracted thousands of people on a gloriously happy day.
They came along to enjoy the continental atmosphere of one of the most pleasant street markets anywhere.
Crowds thronged the streets throughout the day, buying from the 70 stalls selling the best of local food, drink and artisan craft. All food traders reported sell-out business with local brewers Exmoor and Cotleigh performing well.
The Ice and Slice Belles serving Pimms and exotic cocktails excelled themselves and managed to look glamorous at the same time. Wagtail Farm’s organic pork sausages in their ciabatta rolls were a real hit and the young women on Little Van Rouge, serving very good teas, coffees and cakes, were rushed off their feet all day.
A highlight of the annual event is always the greenest carnival around – The Wheelbarrow Carnival – whose theme this year, Out of This World, brought forth many Daleks, spacemen, Clangers and star-bound vehicle. Even a life-sized unicorn made an appearance – and all of this made by local families and propelled on carts and wheelbarrows.
The Street Market event continues to pull in the crowds and traders, and organisers from the Wiveliscombe Area Partnership were delighted with the turnout and response.
Next year’s date is Sunday, September 10.
