the Futures team at Court Fields School in Wellington has had an exciting week.
They have had a successful and insightful National Apprenticeship Week and Years 8 and 9 have been involved in work looking at their ideas and plans for the future.
Year 9 are in the middle of the Future Focus programme, a series of activities provided by school staff and the wider community exploring their plans for the future, their strengths, their passions and what they see themselves doing in ten years’ time.
This is all building towards the choice of subjects they want to pursue in Year 10 and 11.
Students have had assemblies and drop-in sessions from local colleges to talk about what they do when they leave Court Fields, and assemblies encouraging them to think deeply about what they enjoy doing and the sort of person they are. Year 8 students have been meeting the enterprise adviser to find out more about the world of work and explore the skills that are sought after in the workplace.
They will also be planning an enterprise project, working collaboratively to come up with an idea and market it to the enterprise adviser, like in the television show Dragons’ Den.
Over the last half-term, the school has built relationships with local employers, apprenticeship providers and colleges, but would like to make more.
National Careers Week is coming up and the school wants to hear from anyone living and working in the area who would be able to spare some time to talk to students about their work and how they came to be in that job.
Anyone wishing to do an assembly, or host a pop-up lunchtime session, should get in touch with the school and ask for Charity Hunt.
