STUDENTS at Kingsmead School, Wiveliscombe have been learning about what life was like during the English Civil War.

Members of the Torrington 1646 Devon tourist attraction visited as characters from the 17th century and told of the torture of witches, and the work of the barber surgeon.

the year seven students were also interested to find out that some of the common sayings we have today originate from those times such as 'straight laced' which referred to how the Puritans changed the way they laced their bodices.
