MONEY raised during Wellington Operatic Society’s production of ‘Sugar’ has been presented to St Margaret’s Hospice in Taunton.
The society’s chairman, Simon Spalding, and secretary, Monica Spalding, are pictured handing over a cheque for £1,417.85 to Sharon Pavey (centre).
The two leading men in the show, Leon Searle and Ian Oliver, underwent a sponsored leg wax in preparation for their roles as Josephine and Daphne, which raised more than £750, and the rest of the money came from collections taken at the end of each performance. The show was staged at the Wellesley Theatre in May.
Mr Spalding said: “We are delighted to be able to donate this large sum of money to such a worthwhile cause. Thanks must go to all those who sponsored our two guys and to Leon and Ian for undergoing the pain! We are also most grateful to our audiences who gave so generously.”
The society chose St Margaret’s Hospice as its charity this year in memory of two well loved and sadly missed members, Swannie (Susan Swan) and Frostie (Colin Frost), who were wonderfully cared for at the hospice.
