Children at St John’s C of E Primary School in Wellington performed like superstars in the run-up to Christmas.

Pupils in Year 1 and 2 put on a show, ’The Little Red Robin’, and were incredible. The Year 2 youngsters took centre stage, while Year 1 performed as the choir. All of the pupils worked hard to learn the songs, while others had to learn lots of lines. The performance they gave was magical and a brilliant retelling of the Christmas Nativity story with a twist.

Unfortunately, they were not able to perform in front of their families and friends, but the show has been recorded and can be purchased so it can be enjoyed at home.

Year 4 children created a fantastic video of songs, poems and prayers which has been shared with local residential homes, as the school choir was unable to visit them this year. This video shared great joy and hope to the local community, and comments were made about the festive songs and fabulous dance moves. The songs could be heard throughout the school and put a smile on everyone’s faces. One member of staff commented that it is not Christmas unless children can be heard singing.

Year 6 children learnt traditional carols which were to be performed for the Reception class Nativity. Unfortunately, this was cancelled due to new restrictions, but Year 6 still performed their song ’Follow That Star’, which was filmed and shared to everyone on the school Facebook page.

Pupils worked hard last term under challenging circumstances but once again they shone, Staff at the school are proud of them and would like to wish them a safe and happy holiday with their family and friends, and look forward to welcoming them back in the New Year on Wednesday,January 5, 2022.
