COURT FIELDS Community School Wellington remains open today after a student was diagnosed with swine flu.
In a letter sent home to parents yesterday afternoon, Wednesday, head teacher Elaine Faull said: "We are writing to let you know that one student in the school has been diagnosed as having swine flu.
"They are being treated and are recovering well.
"The school has been liaising with the NHS. The school will remain open as usual.
"As swine flu is now circulating in the community, closing the school down would not necessarily help as people could still be exposed to the virus outside the school."
As late as Tuesday this week, as the WWN went to press, Mrs Faull said no confirmed cases of swine flu had been reported.
As reported in the WWN yesterday, Wellington health officials are bracing themselves for an outbreak.
Both the town's medical centres - Bulford Medfical Centre and Luson Surgery - are on standby with emergency plans in place to deal with any crisis.
The NHS advises anyone who thinks they might have flu to check their symptoms on http://www.nhs.uk">www.nhs.uk or call their GP or the swine flu information line on 0800 1 513 513.
See next week's WWN for a full update.
