One of the town's four charity shops has displayed large notices asking people not to steal while others say they cannot afford insurance or expensive CCTV cameras.
Now there are fears there could be a rise in thefts in the run up to Christmas with many items such as rare LPs or designer clothes being sold on at car boot sales.
